The apartment was so charming, cozy and exactly what I wanted from staying in a historic Alfama residential building. I actually enjoyed the exercise I received a few times a day that was required to get to the top floor apartment. It is located on a quiet Beco lane with a fantastic river view, as well perfect cross breezes in the living area during warm days/evenings, within lively Alfama where one can dine, walk 5 minutes to the metro/bus station as well as lively sections of the neighborhood and the city’s attractions. The home was well equipped with furnishings, linens and kitchen utensils/appliances. I was delighted with the outdoor line to dry one’s laundry after using the laundromat about a 2 minute walk from the apartment. The only downside was that when friends visited by driving their cars parking could take a few minutes and Uber could only meet me a few blocks away due to limited street access but that is also the charm of the area. However the best part was the landlord, Paula, who was just warm, wonderful, helpful and hospitable. She introduced me to my nearby neighbors, walked me to the nearest Pingo Doce grocery store, provided me with helpful neighborhood suggestions and introduced to the nearby flea market in Graca. She was easy to contact and very responsive. She made me feel like a local during my month long stay rather than a tourist there to check off the boxes. She has been the best landlord I ever had in my vacation travels and set the bar high for future experiences.
